Pies for PDX


Pies for PDX is a project wherein local vegan bakers handcraft & sell pies to donate 100% of profits to causes we believe in. We work once a month out of the Sweetpea Baking Company kitchen to offer you a delectable pie whose flavor & purpose we have put much thought & consideration into. Pies can be purchased at monthly events or ordered through email at piesforpdx@gmail.com & picked up on a specified date at Sweetpea Baking Co. (1205 SE Stark St. in Portland, OR). March '17: Potato Broccoli Cheddar Handpies for Q Center.


Sweet Justice is holding a vegan bake sale this Saturday, March 25th from 12pm-3pm at Sweet Hereafter to benefit Q Center: "Q Center provides a safe space to support and celebrate LGBTQ diversity, equity, visibility and community building. Q Center is a 501c3 non-profit organization which offers multi-generational programs and services in four core areas: Arts & Culture; Education & Training; Health & Wellness and Advocacy." Potato Broccoli Cheddar Handpies: herbed flakey coconut oil pastry crust, tender gold potatoes, roasted broccoli, cashew-based rich & creamy cheese sauce. Photo & ingredients to be posted soon!

If you would like to reserve handpies for yourself & make special arrangements for pick-up, please email piesforpdx@gmail.com to guarantee your order! We can only accept cash or check at the time of pick-up (checks payable to Q Center). Suggested donation for March: $4/handpie.

PAST PIES

February '17: CHOCOLATE RASPBERRY BABY-PIES FOR GREEN ACRES FARM SANCTUARY. February's pies were donated to Vtopia's 100% vegan bake sale benefiting Green Acres Farm Sanctuary, an organization that "provides compassionate care, food and shelter to abused, abandoned and unwanted farm animals." The bake sale, Love is a Four-Legged Word, raised $860 for the animals. Chocolate Raspberry Baby-Pies: chocolate heightened by the tart sweetness of fresh raspberries & cradled in our handcrafted flakey-buttery pie crust, topped with piped nondairy whip. | SALTED ALMOND BUTTER CUPS FOR STANDING ROCK. A second event in February prompted us to donate almond butter cups to help provide direct support to the water protectors at Standing Rock through Pacific Northwest Stands with Standing Rock. The event, To Standing Rock with Love, raised $1700. Salted Almond Butter Cups: organic fair trade chocolate, creamy almond butter center, Maldon sea salt flakes.

January '17: BLUEBERRY BASIL CRUMB PIES FOR NETWORK FOR REPRODUCTIVE OPTIONS. January's pies were donated to a Sweet Justice pop-up bake sale benefitting NRO, 'a non-profit organization offering reproductive health support and resources to women and girls.' The bake sale raised $1810. Blueberry basil crumb pie: handcrafted flakey buttery crust, not-too-sweet blueberry filling, a touch of fresh organic basil, deliciously wholesome crumb topping, all packed up & ready to go in a bakery box tied with string. 

December '16: GRANDMA RUTH'S TURTLE PIES FOR ENDING THE BACKLOG.
December's pie sale earnings ($335) were donated to EndtheBacklog.org in an effort to demand the processing of hundreds of thousands of untested rape kits across the U.S., some of which are right here in Portland. Grandma Ruth's Turtle Pie: handcrafted flakey buttery crust, pecans, chocolate, coconut cream caramel drizzle with Maldon sea salt flakes. Though my grandmother died when I was fairly young, I still have fond memories of the turtle figurine collection she kept on her Joshua Tree kitchen windowsill - so this pie is for her.
